- The mission of the Duluth Playhouse is to offer exceptional entertainment, training, and performance opportunities in theater arts that may inspire, challenge, and engage the region we serve. Founded in 1914, this playhouse is one of the nation's oldest community theaters and produces a year-round season of dramas, musicals, and children's productions. This year marks our 97th season with a wide variety of shows on the main stage. 2010-11 SeasonThe 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Sept. 16-Oct. 3Irving Berlin's White Christmas, Dec. 3-19Picnic, Jan. 20-30Chicago the Musical, March 31-April 17Alfred Hitchcock's 39 Steps, June 2-12Into the Woods, July 14-31Along with our full main stage season, we have opportunities for youth in our Children's Theatre Arts Series while also providing year-round classes for ages 5 to adult. Our Play Ground Theatre is a satellite theatre to the Playhouse. This alternative performance venue offers opporutnities to artists of all disciplines.Just recently the Playhouse took over the management of the Historic NorShor Theatre in downtown Duluth. The NorShor is currently in the process of revitalization to become a community arts and entertainment venue.
