• Working in both the residential and commercial markets, The Architectural Edge has completed designs for hundreds of homes, mixed use developments, and millions of dollars of civic and commercial development throughout the Midwest. More recently, the Architectural Edge has positioned itself as a leader in the new urban design movement in Central Iowa. New Urban Design recognizes walkable, human-scaled neighborhoods as the building blocks of sustainable communities and regions. We design homes and developments that put people ahead of automobiles and encourages interaction between neighbors. Since 2006, The Architectural Edge has been actively involved in the planning and design of the 1,100 acre Prairie Trail development located in Ankeny, IA. We have also been active in the sustainable design movements in both the commercial and residential markets. Embracing a holistic approach to sustainability in design and construction that goes beyond the national rating systems, we approach design in a way that considers the building as an interconnected whole that sits within the larger eco-system. The Architectural Edge understands housing. Karl Chambers has spent his entire career studying how people live in, and interact with, their environment. From providing connections to the past in memory care facilities to accommodating todays students with current lifestyle amenities, we pride ourselves on our ability to match our projects with the needs of the occupants.
