Description

SEAOI is a professional organization dedicated to advancing the profession, advocating excellence in structural engineering, and aiding in safeguarding the public. In order to accomplish its mission, SEAOI endeavors - To uphold and preserve the Illinois Structural Engineering Act and carry out its prime purpose of safeguarding the lives and property of the public. - To promote legislation conducive to the good practice of engineering. - To encourage engineering education and advance the art and science of structural engineering. - To maintain the honor and dignity of the profession. - To familiarize the public with the role and abilities of the membership and inspire confidence in the profession as a whole. - To cooperate with other professions when the goals and aspiration coincide with SEAOI and are in the interests of public safety. - To do all of the above in the spirit of the SEAOI purpose as stated in the SEAOI By-Laws. SEAOI offers numerous opportunities for continuing education and connecting with other professionals in the engineering field. Seminars and workshops on various topics are held in the Chicago area, with at least one course in downstate Illinois. Monthly dinner meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month, and include a cocktail hour, dinner, and a presentation. The annual Bridge Symposium and Structures Symposia include short lectures throughout the day, with a featured keynote speaker over lunch. Trade Shows in Chicago and Springfield give vendors an opportunity to connect with practicing engineers. The Refresher course runs from October through March and helps prepare candidates for the IL SE Exam.
