• Andson began in 2010 as an effort to change social mobility in Southern Nevada. In other words, how can we get teens and young adults well versed in personal finance and more understanding of the importance of financial literacy to their future? Through innovative lessons that are taught for our audience - and never with a one size fits all approach - we are able to help students retain information on personal finance.The problem was, there was so much more to be done. Getting into groups and student bodies showed us that students had trouble in the basics too. Reading and mathematics were suffering, and we had an idea.Fast forward to 2011 - we decided to launch Andson Academics - a small-group tutoring program that will blanket the Valley and give students the remedial attention and confidence to succeed in their schooling. Through this tutoring program, we are now aiding over 700 students on a daily basis with homework help and tutoring. We have partnered with organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson, St. Jude's Ranch for Children and Communities in Schools. We are working hard to better our services and aid more students in the Valley.What sets us apart is that we are on the front lines - we aren't large, we have limited staff, but we put our heart into every program we create and deploy.We truly believe that we can achieve more through strategies that are not typically used by non profits. Over the course of the 2014-2016 we have set goals to become more self sufficient through licensure of materials as well as other revenue strategies. This will allow us to continue our focus of directly serving youth. When we started this mission in Southern Nevada - we had no idea that empowering through education would turn into a group of academic and financial education services that would gain so much support and attention. We are so proud to be changing Southern Nevada, one student at a time.
