• Envoy Medical was founded in 1995 originally as St. Croix Medical to design, manufacture, and bring to market a fully implanted hearing device that would use the ear as its microphone. A completely novel yet wonderfully elegant and simple way to avoid many of the problems and limitations of other hearing devices. The result was a true breakthrough technology unlike anything else on the market -- a fully implanted hearing prosthetic using two transducers and a sound processor, no microphone, no speaker, nothing external. In 2006, Envoy Medical received CE Mark to market and sell its fully implanted hearing prosthetic, the Esteem, in the European Union. In 2010, the Esteem received FDA PMA approval after it successfully met all requirements and received a rare unanimous advisory panel vote of 15-0 in favor of approval.Although building a completely novel product and getting it approved in the US and EU is pretty impressive, our proudest moments come when we hear from patients who talk about it as a positive and life-chaning force in their lives.
