• The Giving Kitchen (TGK) is a nonprofit charity based in Atlanta, GA that provides emergency assistance to area restaurant workers facing an unanticipated hardship. From helping with the cost of living expenses to funeral arrangements, TGK provides a saftey net and critical peace of mind for restaurant workers during times of crisis. The organization was established after an overwhelming expression of support from the restaurant community when Atlanta chef Ryan Hidinger was diagnosed with last stage cancer in December 2012. The Giving Kitchen has four strong sources of support: Restaurants and their employees The extended restaurant industry (distributors, breweries and distilleries, etc.) Restaurant patrons Staplehouse, a high-profile restaurant owned as a subsidiary. Staplehousea 2016 James Beard nominee for Best New Restaurant is in Atlantas Old Fourth Ward with Chef Ryan Smith at the helm. 100% of Staplehouses net profits are channeled back to its nonprofit parent, as an ongoing stream of support. Like most other direct service nonprofits, TGK receives charitable contributions through individual donations, private foundations, corporate foundations and giving programs, and signature events and fundraisers. The Giving Kitchen is led by an Executive Director, 3 full time staff members, and an 12 member Board of Directors consisting of individuals involved in the hospitality, education, not-for-profit and sports and entertainment sectors.
