- In 1963, the Museum of Natural Historys Bird Study Group became the Santa Barbara Chapter of the National Audubon Society. Our members organize and lead bi-weekly bird walks, monthly field trips, and education programs, all of which are free and open to the public. Our community education outreach program, Eyes in the Sky, presents formerly injured birds of prey, native to our area, to children and adults throughout the greater Santa Barbara area with support from the Museum of Natural History. Every year we hold or support special events such as the Winter Bird Count 4 Kids, our major fundraiser the Birdathon, the Eyes in the Sky Open House, and the Christmas Bird Count. Our mission statement is: To help conserve and restore the earths natural ecosystems and improve its biological diversity, principally in the Santa Barbara area, and to connect people with birds and nature through education, science-based projects and advocacy.
