- NAMI Dallas, Inc. is dedicated to relieving the effects of mental illness known as biological brain diseases on individuals, family members, and society through support, education, advocacy, and research.NAMI Dallas is a grassroots family and consumer self-help, support, education, and advocacy organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with mental illnesses and the lives of their families and other caregivers. Such illnesses are now known as serious and persistent neurobiological brain disorders. Formed in 1979, NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) has 1100 State and affiliate organizations with offices in every state capital. NAMI Dallas, a 501(c)(3) tax-deductible nonprofit organization, was founded in 1982. NAMI Dallas' membership includes consumers diagnosed with mental illness; their family members, relatives, friends, and other caregivers; mental health professionals; and all who share NAMI's vision and mission.
