• The Comprehensive School Health (CSH)/Safe & Drug-Free Schools and Communities (SDFSC) program uses a research based framework on risk and protective factors to foster resilience and prevent high risk behaviors. The program provides ongoing professional development and technical assistance to all school personnel with research based prevention strategies, so that staff, parents, and community feel empowered to contribute to their district CSH/SDFSC program. Effective prevention practitioners and educators need knowledge and skills in several areas related to both teaching and prevention. In a continuum of intervention barriers to learning are addressed through a coordinated, comprehensive, multifaceted and integrated approach. The solution requires collaboration among schools, families, communities, and social institutions. The CSH/SDFSC program promotes a framework for supportive and protective school environments that coordinate and collaborate, so that youth have opportunities to acquire cognitive and social skills, thus, making informed decisions about risk behaviors with long term consequences and hope for the future!
