Tonic Theater Company

Description

• Tonic Theater Company, a registered 501c3, is dedicated to increasing knowledge and understanding of history and science through theater, particularly the development and presentation of new plays. Tonic Theater Company seeks to fashion modern works for a dynamic classically trained ensemble of actors, providing a platform for playwrights and actors alike to explore complex characters and storylines. Tonic is committed to building a new company that will make history-and-science-theater both entertaining and self- sustaining. To build its audience, Tonic Theater has presented a series of public readings in casual salons, providing artists a live experience of scripts under consideration. These readings lead directly to Tonic Theater being invited to participate in the Kennedy Center Page-To-Stage Festival in 2014 and again in 2015. Tonic Theater has also entered a partnership with the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and will present at reading of the Sloan Foundation Award winning play Moving Bodies, by Arthur Giron, at NAS headquarters on the National Mall on December 7, 2015. Also, coming soon is Tonics first full production, Darwin at Down, by Gino DiIorio. Darwin at Down is an intimate portrait of the conflict between Charles and Emma Darwin over Charless decision to publish his theory of evolution in On the Origin of Species. Looking from its early success into 2016, Tonic intends to build a theater company for the 21st century: A theater company that will seek funding alternatives to relieve board members, foundations, and other supporters of the continual need to provide funds.A company that will make history-and-science-theater both entertaining and self- sustaining.A theater company that will use technology to serve its community and continually increase its audience reach.Tonic Theater Company is a member of the DC Arts & Humanities Education Collaborative.
