• ARTIST STATEMENTMy passion is to create functional, lighted works of glass art that transforms our experience of interior space whether in a room or in our mind. I am enchanted by the material that is simultaneously a solid and a liquid, and its propensity to refract light is an essential part of my work. Illuminata the name of my studio, stems from the Italian Renaissance group of thinkers and artists who expanded consciousness and brought enlightenment to the public. Their daring courage influences many of my artworks and challenges my perceived limitations. I am inspired by human experience and driven to create unique glassworks that bring more light and beauty into the world. Glass making is an alchemical, 4000-year-old process. My apprenticeships with world-class glass masters offered me the opportunity to learn timeless traditions of which I incorporate with my contemporary design aesthetic. The result is dynamic and experiential glass art that allows me to express my relationship to my surroundings with elegant and minimal gestures.The sustainability and future of this ancient art form is in crisis. Therefore, my contribution to the lineage of glass making is the founding of BIoGlass, a non-profit dedicated to the use of alternative fuel sources for glassmaking and an environmental approach to the glass studio practice.
