- A new kind of social service provider. Urban Advocacy is a non-profit that provides community engagement and advocacy training to marginalized Portlanders. Services are offered to individuals who experience developmental disabilities, economic barriers, mental health diagnosis, and other factors that may limit access to community involvement and advocacy opportunities. Our work is centered on the belief that Portland should be a community that embraces the value of all its members, regardless of diagnosis or label. Currently the social services that are available to individuals in need address health, safety, housing, and other foundational needs. While these supports are very necessary, alone they are incapable of shifting the forces that contribute to these needs in the first place. Urban Advocacy works to create opportunities for community building and meaningful change- recognizing that progress is only possible when everyone has a spot at the table.
