    • Blackburn Energy awarded MassCEC grant to develop power generation unit prototype.Blackburn Energy is a design and engineering company that invented a proprietary mash-up of technologies creating break-through efficiencies that will solve the $4.8 Billion industry loss resulting from idle time. The term idling refers to the continuous operation of a vehicles main propulsion engine while the vehicle is stopped. Idling is common in traffic conditions, especially during urban driving, such as at traffic lights or in stop-and-go driving during traffic congestion. However, idling periods in traffic are relatively short. There is more concern over long periods of idling of heavy-duty diesel engines while the vehicle is parked and not in active service. This may have more of an adverse environmental impact and be a source of significant additionaland often unnecessaryfuel consumption. Blackburn's solution eliminates the need to idle the engine overnight, saving 2400 gallons of diesel fuel and 21 tons of CO2 emissions per truck per year.
