- Rebuilding Together Metro Chicago improves the homes and neighborhoods of elderly, disabled and low-income residents so that they may continue to live in warmth, safety and comfort.Each year, on National Rebuilding Day, approximately 3,500 volunteers from across the Chicago area come together to complete home repair projects for low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners. The renovations completed benefit families, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities whose limited income has made it difficult to maintain their homes. Emphasis is placed on repairs that make homes safer and more accessible for their owners, as well as renovations and upgrades that will leave the home a brighter, more pleasant place to live.Since 1991, Rebuilding Together Metro Chicago has renovated over 1,600 homes and 200 community facilities, and continues to be at the forefront of neighborhood preservation and stabilization efforts through it National Rebuilding Day events.
