Bowersville Family Produce

Description

• Bowersville Family Produce is building local food systems from the ground up. Grocery customers are asking for local produce. But local produce doesnt work well right now for the wholesale system. It often costs grocers money in poor shelf life, inadequate quantities, and inefficient systems. Most local farms are small. They know how to grow but they dont fit the distribution mold. They want to bring good, local produce to the wholesale distribution system, but they dont have the volume, equipment, capital, or knowledge to meet post-harvest handling, grading and shipping standards, food safety requirements, and traceability. Bowersville Family Produce bridges the gap between small family farms and the major food distribution networks in the Southeast region, helping small growers sell their organic produce into the wholesale market. As an organic food hub and aggregator, we work with beginning and experienced small farms to help them overcome these barriers and get locally-grown organic produce to the major wholesale and retail markets. We aggregate wholesale quantities of same-variety crops. We pack to industry standards of grade, size, and packaging. We utilize post-harvest and food sanitization protocols which improve shelf life and increase food safety. We offer grower-identified branding and we have a great story that connects with customers. We make local produce work.
