    • MISSION: Weigh of Life is a non-profit organization that provides opportunities for families to enjoy improving their health through exercise classes, nutrition education and social support. BACKGROUND: Overweight and obesity continue to climb and now affect more than two-thirds of U.S. residents, including those in California, Contra Costa County and Richmond. Center for Disease Control data indicate that Hispanics, African Americans, and other limited income persons have higher rates than others. Our program is designed to improve the health of participants and their families. Weigh of Life is dedicated to providing health and fitness classes and education at an affordable rate to a population that has a high risk for obesity. By providing such opportunities, we hope to promote the concept of prevention, educate participants on nutrition so they can execute and pass on healthy habits to their families, and provide social support through exercise in a safe space, thereby building stronger and healthier communities.
