• SSIS is an independent, coed, day and boarding school located in Friday Harbor, Washington, 72 miles Northwest of Seattle, serving grades 5-12, with 75 day and 25 boarding-homestay students from the US and other countries. 20 full- and part-time teachers, 45 courses including AP Literature, AP Environmental Science, AP Spanish, AP Calculus AB and BC, Studio Art, AP Psychology, AP English Language, AP World History, AP Human Geography, and AP US History, Theory of Knowledge, Music Composition, Creative Writing, Marine Biology, Chinese, Ceramics, Woodcarving, ESL, as well as a full curriculum in the maths, sciences, and humanities. 88% of SSIS faculty hold a Master's or higher degree. Challenging expeditions and travel experiences foster personal growth. Service in diverse communities teaches empathy, humility and the importance of collaboration with others.
