- SuperPower, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd., is a developer and manufacturer of second-generation high temperature superconductor (2G HTS) wire. The company was formed in 2000 (by Intermagnetics General Corporation) to develop and commercialize HTS wire for use in energy technologies. Superconductors, when cooled to very low temperatures exhibit no electrical losses to resistance, and thus offer the benefit of energy efficiency in power cables, transformers, motors, generators, fault current limiters, magnetic energy storage systems. Greatly improved power density, operation at high magnetic fields, environmental friendliness are just some of the further benefits of HTS. SuperPower offers high performance 2G HTS wire and coils made of the wire to customers around the world for a large variety of applications.
