Refugee & Immigrant Fund (Rif)

Description

• About Refugee & Immigrant Fund (RIF)RIF is a New York City-based NGO, focusing on action at the community level to improve the lives of refugees and immigrants. We strongly feel that partnering with select, high-impact organizations to serve a small group every year allows us to ensure that every participant is provided the best possible opportunities to learn and grow. The intimate size of each cohort emphasizes our focus on each RIF intern as a unique individual rather than a case. While RIF participants have a chance to acquire new skills and enhance their opportunities, they also greatly impact our communities. They help to produce local food, compost and generate organic soil, and save rainwater. They contribute to a more just and sustainable food system in New York City. In short, the RIF Urban Farm program employs an ecosystem approach, strengthening systems and reciprocally improving the greater community as much as the lives of individual participants.About the Urban FarmRIF runs a Urban Agriculture Training Program for newcomers in New York (refugees & immigrants). This program is implemented in partnership with the Brooklyn Grange, the organization behind two of the worlds largest rooftop farms at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and in Long Island City, Queens. The program trains RIF participants in sustainable agriculture practices, provides job readiness skills with a focus on green jobs, and improves English language skills.
