• Against the Grain Scholars is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that identifies and supports the hard-work and high-quality character exhibited by a small, but determined minority of inner-city school students. These Against the Grain Scholars, as they are known, set themselves apart from the majority of their peers by regularly attending school, consistently participating in class, routinely completing their homework, following the directions and rules of the inner-city schools they attend, and being respectful to teachers, school staff, classmates, siblings, and others. Our Purpose is to give the Against the Grain Scholars the recognition that they deserve, positively reinforce their hard work and high-quality character, build upon their tremendous foundations, introduce them into various community networks, show them the difference that they can make in the lives of others! Our Mission is to provide mentoring and support for the ATGScholars and facilitate unique volunteer opportunities for the ATGScholars. Our Hope is that the ATGScholars will continue on their paths as the true leaders, heroes, and positive role models of their communities. Our Dream is that, as successful adults, the ATGScholars will return to their neighborhoods to mentor and inspire a future generation of inner-city school students in the same way that they inspire us every day!
