• The Children's Heart Foundation (CHF) is the country's leading organization solely committed to funding congenital heart defect (CHD) research. CHF funds the most promising research to advance the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of congenital heart defects. Our mission is to bring health, hope, and happiness to children and families who are impacted by CHDs. CHF was established by Betsy Peterson in 1996, after losing her son to a CHD at the age of 8. Since then, CHF has independently funded 67 research projects with nearly $8 million. In addition, CHF and the American Heart Association have collaboratively funded 7 projects with $800,000, bringing CHF's total funding to $8.4 million. Esteemed medical advisers from around the nation review applications for research funding and make recommendations based on quality, innovation and promise of research. Thanks to advances made through research, mortality rates have declined by 30% in the last decade.The Children's Heart Foundation is a national 501(c)(3) taxexempt charitable organization that does not receive any government funding.
