• At KiDS NEED MORE we believe that fun heals. All of our programs and services are provided at no cost to our families. We are 100% volunteer run. We use a home office and donated meeting space. Most of our leadership team and staff have been directly affected by cancer or life-threatening illness. KiDS NEED MORE is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Our funding comes from the community in private donations and grants. Our year round events include opportunities for families and young adults affected by life-treating illness to connect with one another in a social and supportive way. We have events like holiday parties and picnics. We also bring fun and games though our day of camp at local hospitals to spend time with children that may not be well enough to attend camp. We provide a supportive network of volunteers that visit members of our community in the hospital, spend time with the parents during exhausting nights in the hospital with a sick child. Our volunteers also deliver warm fuzzy baskets to kids receiving treatment, they also establish regular hang out time with the families to make home visits, play video games with siblings and have dinner with families coping through trauma or end life stages with their child. The main event, our signature week of KiDS NEED MORE Camp Adventure, is for children coping with cancer ages 6 -16. We also have a Leadership/Counselor in Training Program for teens 17 & 18 coping with life-threatening illness. This week long sleep away camp on Shelter Island serves approximately 150 kids each year. This is no ordinary camp. It takes nearly 120 full time volunteer staff to make a week of pure MAGIC happen and make it SAFE! This includes our medical team. We use a state-of-the-art facility, Quinipet Retreat Center, that is handicap accessible and offers air-conditioned accommodations so we are able to best serve our campers with special needs.
