Our ultimate goal is to be able to shape the genetics and characteristics of useful organisms and useful biomolecules rapidly and flexibly like clay in our hands.Function Generator, our platform technology, is broadly capable of developing novel and advanced traits in microbes used for the production of useful compounds ranging from fuels and chemicals to pharmaceuticals and enzymes. The technology also represents a novel way for optimizing enzymes with higher catalytic efficiency, improved temperature tolerance, altered substrate specificity, and resistance to inhibitors.Challenge - Microbes are widely used for bio-production. However, genetic optimization creating improved strains of microbes for maximum efficiency and productivity is currently difficult, slow and expensive.Solution - Primordial Genetics Inc. has developed Function Generator, a novel combinatorial gain-of-function genetic technology designed to enhance productivities of microbes used for the production of proteins (therapeutic proteins, industrial enzymes) and chemicals / fuels / pharmaceuticals. Function Generator has been validated in bakers yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and the laboratory bacterium Escherichia coli, with work on additional organisms in the planning stages.Partnering - The company is seeking partnerships to apply this promising genetic technology to improving industrial production organisms and cell based systems in a variety of industries: pharmaceuticals, renewable chemicals & fuels, food processing and agricultural biotechnology. Our internal R&D is focused on producing superior E. coli strains for protein production. Primordial Genetics also has unique and powerful protein engineering capabilities that are being put to use together with partners to develop next-generation enzymes for pharmaceutical and industrial applications.
