• The Des Moines I Have a Dream Foundation mission is to motivate and empower children from low-income communities to reach their education and career goals by providing a long-term program of mentoring, tutoring and enrichment as well as tuition assistance for higher education.Since 1990, the Des Moines I Have a Dream Foundation (IHDF) has worked with the Des Moines Public School system to identify cohorts of disadvantaged elementary school students in need of our proactive, comprehensive approach to dropout prevention. Our goal is to put at-risk students on the path to college and career success from an early age.Previous projects involved students from Moulton Elementary and the Homes of Oakridge. One current project supports students who first-graders at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary in 2006, This group of Dreamers is on track to graduate high school in 2018.Our new project is the Dreamer Academy, which provides support, wrap-around services, and college and career readiness activities for all students at Findley Elementary School.Fostering a culture of college and career is in the best interest of everyone. More graduates who are prepared to lead strengthen our local economy and enrich the community we share.
