- The Florida Agricultural Museum was established in 1983 by a group of concerned agriculturalistsand historians at the request of Agriculture Commissioner Doyle Conner to help preserve this importantpart of Florida's heritage. Originally located in Tallahassee, the museum was part of the Departmentof Agriculture and Consumer Services.In 1992, it was designated the Museum of Agriculture and Rural History of the State of Floridaunder Florida Statute. In 1997, the Florida Agricultural Museum moved to its new home on 460acres in Flagler County. All of the Museums buildings were moved from their original locations andrenovated with grant funds provided by the Florida Department of State, Division of Historical Resources.Adam Putnam, current Commissioner of Agriculture, will continue the tradition of CommissionersDoyle Conner, Bob Crawford, Terrie Rhodes, and Charles Bronson by working to educate Floridiansabout the history, importance and contributions of agriculture to our state. Commissioner Putnam,a Florida farmer himself, understands the issues facing agriculture in Florida and the nation. Hisleadership will ensure that Florida agriculture continues to be a strong and growing component ofour states economy and in feeding the people of Florida, our nation and other countries.In addition to preserving Florida's agricultural past, the Museum is also active in the conservationof heritage livestock including rare Florida Cracker cattle and horses. The Florida Agricultural Museumprovides a fun and educational experience for all ages. Flagler County and the St. Augustinearea lead the state in historic sites. Only 25 minutes from downtown St. Augustine, the Florida AgriculturalMuseum is one of Flagler Countys most popular attractions.The Museum is a private non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation led by a board of trustees; public spiritedvolunteers from across the state who share a common interest in Florida agriculture.
