Campus Election Engagement Project

• Founded by Soul of a Citizen author Paul Rogat Loeb, The Campus Election Engagement Project is a non-partisan effort that started in 14 states in 2008, working with over 500 campuses with a combined enrollment of nearly 3 million undergraduates. We expanded our reach in 2012, working in 26 states with 750 schools enrolling 5.5 million students, and just wrapped up our biggest year yet in 2014. According to our follow-up surveys, 74% of the schools we approached used at least some of our resources or ideas, and 49% used many of them. We believe we played a role in increasing student turnout despite greater political cynicism, new legal obstacles to voting, and, surprisingly, less outreach to young voters by the partisan campaigns. We work primarily through the state offices of the major higher education service learning organization Campus Compact, and with other allied higher education organizations and networks, like National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, American Association of Colleges and Universities, Youth Service America, and the National Communications Association. We're now working to engage students in off-year elections as well.
