- Laughing At My Nightmare, Inc. is tax-exempt nonprofit organization located in Bethlehem, PA. Founded by Author and Speaker, Shane Burcaw, the mission of the organization is two-pronged - to inspire people to overcome adversity through the use of humor and positivity, and also to raise money to help families affected by muscular dystrophy diseases. The organization accomplishes the first prong of its mission by traveling to schools and organizations to give positivity-themed inspirational speeches. Shane is a talented speaker and is able to touch people's lives as he shares the humor of his own struggle with spinal muscular atrophy, a disease he was born with. His passion for his positivity movement stemmed from a personal blog he started during his college years. The blog is filled with hilarious stories and life-changing messages, and within a short time, the blog gained over half a million followers. The incredible reaction to his blog inspired Shane to share his message through his speeches all over the country. The second prong of the organization's mission, to raise money to help families affected by muscular dystrophy diseases, is accomplished through fundraising and donations. The organization raises money to help these families get the medical equipment they need to live normal lives. Equipment such as ramps, accessible vehicles, handicap swimming gear, and so much more are vital to these individuals to live happily and productively, but are oftentimes very costly and not covered by medical insurance. The nonprofit is passionate about doing what it can to give back in this way, first locally, but with the hope of growing this program to the national level. Laughing At My Nightmare, Inc. is supported by an active Board of Directors and currently employs a President, a Treasurer, and a Fundraising Director. The nonprofit has been in existence since 2012.
