• Rochester Area Neighborhood House, Inc., a non-profit human service organization, assists our neighbors during times of hardship. We partner with the community and other social service providers to help neighbors in need move toward self-sufficiency. This is our adopted mission statement and the basis upon which we serve. Between 2010 & 2015 Neighborhood House provided essential services to 5,655 households living within our 100 square mile service area - about 17,000 individuals. We filled 10,180 food orders, providing our families with over 500 tons of food at our Food Pantry located at 1315 Pine Street. We hosted 13,186 visits to the Clothes Closet for gently used clothing and household items located at 44 Mill Street. We granted $667,061 in direct financial assistance for a variety of essential needs including shelter, utilities, car repair, medications, etc. & facilitated distribution of $334,380 in utility relief through The Heat And Warmth Fund. We transported clients to 2,859 medical appointments and other essential services booking 89,292 miles in our van. We are neighbors helping neighbors and we benefited from 52,728 volunteer hours to provide these services. 90% of the annual budget comes directly from private donations from the community and 100% of our budget stays in the community. Originally founded in 1968 as a vision of seven ministers looking for a center where all communications of need could be channeled and shared, Neighborhood House has grown into an effective organization that continues to serve the needs of the community 46 years later. The Clothes Closet of Neighborhood House has a long history dating back to 1937 when Lyle 'Red' Knapp, a volunteer firefighter, set out to help families who lost their belongings to fire or experienced extreme tragedy. In 1992 it officially became part of Rochester Area Neighborhood House.
