Currently there is a gap between the following: in-vitro modeling, in-vivo testing and clinical results. Two dimensional models do not allow the biology to respond in a manner that it would in-vivo and animal testing does not always correlate with human responses. Nortis' Organ-on-Chip technology introduces a new era of in-vitro systems. By growing segments of human organ systems inside small microfluidic chips, researchers can conduct in-vitro testing directly on functional human tissues. One example is the proximal tubule of the human kidney, which has been shown in many cases to be more sensitive to drug side effects than animal kidneys. Other tissue models that Nortis and our collaborators have developed brain, heart, liver, immune system, blood vessels, and cancer applications. Nortis' Technology is a leader in Organ on Chip microfluidic field. Our products are used to easily create complex micro physiologically functional units of tissues that can be actively perfused. They allow researchers to ask and investigate complex biological questions that can typically only be done in-vivo, bridging the gap from in-vitro testing. This allows experimentation to be done on human tissues, which ensures a better understanding of how drugs and diseases actually affect people. Nortis first generation of commercial products launched in August 2015.
