• Tualatin Riverkeepers (TRK) mission is to protect, restore and enjoy the Tualatin River. TRK is proud to have been forged out of community activism that forced the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Environmental Quality to enforce pollution limits in the Tualatin River, leading to much ecological improvement over the past 30 years. TRKs four programs include: recreation, restoration, watershed watch/advocacy and environmental education. TRK is also a member of the Waterkeeper Alliance (http://waterkeeper.org/), a global movement for clean water. o Recreation Through our Trips and Tours program, more than 20,000 people have explored the Tualatin River on a TRK paddle trip. TRKs volunteer guides lead dozens of trips for groups and the public annually. With a fleet of canoes and kayaks, TRK is gearing up for an exciting paddle season. o Habitat Restoration Community groups, students and volunteers work to restore natural habitats for clean drinking water and wildlife. Projects include Tualatin River clean ups via canoe, native tree planting and invasive species removal. Together, we have restored 500 acres of habitat in our watershed. o Watershed Watch Watershed Watch is the Tualatin Riverkeepers environmental advocacy program and is responsible for watch-dogging/pollution prevention. It also provides community forums and a deliberative framework that strengthens the communitys involvement in policy decisions to protect our community natural resources and waterways. o Environmental Education More than 11,000 children have participated in our nature awareness school field trips at Dirksen Nature Park in Tigard and 70% are from Title 1/underserved communities. TRK helps teachers meet state benchmarks with a hands-on approach to science education and innovative curriculum. With weeklong summer camps each year, hundreds of children will have the opportunity to explore and learn from nature this summer.
