Design+Culture Lab, Llc

Description

• Design+Culture Lab, LLC is a research-driven urban social enterprise dedicated to the positive transformation of urban neighborhoods through collaborative design strategies that address the complex spatial issues associated with cultural, racial, and ethnic inequality. Design+Culture Lab's focus is to involve community members in the transformation of the material environment; their cities, their neighborhoods, their blocks. We strive to move beyond the limitations of community engagement into true participatory and collaborative design. We promote the active engagement of populations that have traditionally been underserved, that they may become empowered to create positive change. Design+Culture Lab's engagement strategy is rooted in creative activities to allow community members to be empowered to actively participate in the urban transformation of their neighborhood. While traditional engagement models often intimidate community members through complex language and processes; We aim to engage the community on their terms to ensure that the solutions are informed by the people they affect.
