DermTechs Pigmented Lesion Assay (PLA) provides physicians with a non-invasive option for the biopsy of clinically atypical pigmented lesions using an adhesive patch rather than a scalpel. DermTech provides highly accurate, objective information to the physician to improve patient care and comfort and reduce costs. The PLA is used for the detection of melanoma in atypical skin lesions or moles and utilizes a sample collected with our Adhesive Patch Skin Biopsy Kit. The PLA can be used to reduce unnecessary surgical biopsy procedures by ruling out false positives based on visual assessment prior to performing a surgical removal. It may also be used to provide immediate information on lesions that require 6-12 months follow up for change. This non-invasive biopsy approach has additional utility in patient populations that are anti-coagulated, at increased risk for infection and scaring, or at risk for wound complications, and for lesions in cosmetically sensitive areas.
