- iCentrix is a UK based software product company established in 1998 by former Caldera Thin Clients CEO Roger Gross. iCentrix pioneered the split web browser, where part of the browser runs on a web server in the Cloud and the other part runs on a client device. The first product called MarioNet was developed in 1999.The concept behind MarioNet is to build a thin-client browser to provide web-based content to very small client platforms with little RAM or ROM and minimal processing power. It is designed to run on a range of embedded operating systems or indeed a ROM platform without an operating system. The server side originally used the Mozilla open-sourced web browser based on Netscape's Navigator. A proprietary protocol called OPTIC is used to communicate between the two parts. Target client devices include cell phones, tablet devices, TV settup boxes,touch screen information kiosks and vending machines.
