• Long before there was VeryVera, before Vera Stewart booked her first catering job (as Vera & Company) in 1984 and before her cake-baking prowess garnered national attention, there was a little girl learning at the elbow of her grandmother, the original Vera. It was there she learned not only the arts of blending and baking, but also how to add earnest affection as an essential ingredient.Today, VeryVera has expanded far beyond its simple catering company roots. In 1993 she began a gourmet mail order service specializing in homemade baked goods and cakes. Those cakes have found their way into Oprahs O Magazine, the New York Times and Gourmet and are available at high end retailers such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. Currently, VeryVera entrees are on the shelves at Costco Wholesale in the Southeast. Recently, Vera threw down with television super chef Bobby Flay and taught him a thing or two about carrot cake. She has also established the School of Good Taste, a children's summer program focused on cooking and etiquette.Vera understands that success means being able to give.
