• Mission: The Kolbe Fund provides support for families who must travel in order to obtain the best medical care for a child.Maximilian Kolbe Schnittman was born on the feast day of St. Maximilian Kolbe a Polish Franciscan friar that volunteered to die in place of a stranger at Auschwitz. In February 2011 an MRI revealed that 4-year old Max had a brain tumor. Naturally, prayers to St. Maximilian Kolbe became common for Maxs parents - Kate and Aaron, as well as their extended family and friends. Travels to see doctors, long days and nights in the hospital, the loving support of friends and family, and St. Kolbe became part of the family's story. Two surgeries and almost three years later, Max is beating all odds and on the path to a long healthy life. Kate and Aaron started The Kolbe Fund as a celebration of the gift of health.Maxs family attributes his health, not only to the loving support and prayers from friends and family, but to their ability to travel. Together with his parents and sisters, Max journeyed to seek the medical team that the family trusted was the best fit to treat his rare illness.At The Kolbe Fund, we understand that for families with critically ill children, priorities are rearranged and health care becomes the most primary concern. There is no distance too far or remedy unfit for consideration if it can deliver the hope (and often the promise) of a cure. Many families travel and often experience the burden of income loss as they tend to the health needs of their child.Inspired by the miracles of medicine, The Kolbe Fund supports families that travel as they struggle with illness. Top childrens hospitals around the world celebrate miracles of health every day, and we believe that we can create programs that deliver hope through aid that eases access to the medical teams and hospitals.
