• America's Story Lives Here! Operated by the Tudor Place Foundation, Inc., Tudor Place Historic House & Garden is a historic estate marking its 2016 Bicentennial in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. Open for tours Tuesday through Sunday, 11 months of the year (except January), the museum educates the public about the history of American public and domestic life, culture, technology, labor, landscape, and material culture, tracking development of the Federal City and region from the 18th to the 20th century. Designed by a prominent early American architect, Dr. William Thornton, Tudor Place was founded by a granddaughter of Martha Washington, Martha Parke Custis Peter, and her husband, Thomas Peter. The estate and its collections, including a voluminous archive and impressive Washington Collection, remained in their descendants' hands through five generations, until becoming a museum in the 1980s. The Foundation protects, preserves and interprets the historic property and collections while instilling the value of the past in the public perception.
