- New Roots provides microloans to refugee and immigrant entrepreneurs. The fund allows for non-traditional forms of collateral such as small household items, and does not require all-inclusive business plans that non-native speakers cannot produce. Some loans are targeted to the precise needs of home based daycares and women-owed retail stores. Others target transportation and limousine services. Around half of all loans are Muslim, Sharia-Compliant. In the Seattle-King County area, the New Roots Fund has a long-term commitment to microenterprise, particularly access to credit for refugees and immigrants wanting to start, maintain or expand a business. Our successful microenterprise program has made 202 loans over the last 3 years, assisted 366 refugee owned businesses (many not officially enrolled in the program), and recently created 316 jobs within the businesses of borrowers
