• Apna Ghar provides holistic services and conducts advocacy across immigrant communities to end gender violence. Apna Ghar empowers women to be self-sufficient by a full spectrum of services from education to emergency and transitional housing to counseling and legal services.Company History:Apna Ghar was founded by five Asian American women who established a domestic violence hotline in response to unmet needs in the community. At its incorporation in January 1990, Apna Ghar became one the first domestic violence agencies in the United States to address the cultural and linguistic barriers that prevent South Asian victims of family violence from reaching out for help. Today Apna Ghars work extends beyond the South Asian community, as we have created a model for domestic violence programs serving clients from marginalized, immigrant populations. Not only do our current clients reflect the diversity of the Chicago metropolitan area, but our staff also provides training and technical assistance, nationally and internationally, to organizations serving victims of domestic violence from underserved communities.
