Sheahan Stephen Sapphires

Description

• Importer of Fine Ceylon Sapphires Established 2007 Bio: Sheahan Stephen, was born in Tamil, Sri Lanka and experienced discrimination at a young age for being born into a minority group. It is important to me that I help close the gap between the Tamils, the Sinhalese and the Muslims as I have seen how my family was negatively impacted by this racism- an outcome of the Sri Lankan civil war. Through my sapphire business I have been able to demonstrate forward-thinking by educating my employees on racial and religious tolerance, which has extended to others in the business. The sapphire miners, cutters and dealers have taken a cue from my progressive leadership and have enacted better practices among themselves. The key goals of further development in the Sri Lankan sapphire industry are in the following areas; pay workers twice the standard low wages, provide the ability to work from home (telecommute), establish a gemological library, provide access to a gem testing lab, achieve the ability to trace sapphires directly to their mine of origin, which will build trust. Sheahan Stephen Sapphire Company maintains a transparent business model in order to keep relationships with client and continues growing while operating a highly quality controlled environment in every aspect. From sustainable mining to heating under direct supervision and using artisan cutters, no stone is left untouched. In addition to running my company and lecturing on sustainability, I have undertaken a beatification project to rebuild a church in Rathnapura to serve the homeless. I hope you will join me on the journey in sustainable mining, cultural progressiveness, and enjoy the beautiful sapphires that only Sri Lanka has to offer! Board Member of: AGTA GIA AGS WJA
