Volunteer Tax Assistance Program

• The Volunteer Tax Assistance Program is supervised by Minnesota Student Association's Campus Relations Committee. It has its own leadership board that organizes all of its events, programming, certification, training, sponsorships, and marketing. Officially, the site is an extension of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program run by the IRS.The Volunteer Tax Assistance Program was started in 2008 by Missy Gettel. The program went through a testing phase until it was launched full force in 2009 by the new committee: Dustin Huibregtse, Jezelle Ryan, JiaJing Zhu, Thomas Pranica, Ashley Vandenberghe, Emily Kaszynski, Morgann Haake, and Nick Freese.Our program focuses on University of Minnesota students and the community abroad. We first work with interested volunteers by providing a certification and training program to become certified tax preparers. These tax preparers provide free income tax return preparation and filing to qualified individuals (please see Our Services for information on qualification). Almost all students, student workers, and low-income individuals around our community qualify. We want to save students a lot of money by providing the service for free as well as give them the highest quality of service possible.Our mission, vision, and values are being written by the committee.
