- The mission of Tidewater Arts Outreach is enhance wellness for people with special needs, through the arts. We match hundreds of community artists with opportunities to share their compassion and talents, with thousands of people in dozens of dependent care settings and programs locally. We train and mentor artists and we pay them for their valued services. We offer workshops and share online resources for caregivers, so that they might apply arts practices with confidence in their care settings. We advocate in the community for the needs of people in congregate and crisis care programs, and raise awareness about the benefits of arts programming for people with special needs. We have a small, part-time staff of one full-time director and three part-time managers who write grants, schedule programs and perform office administration.
