• The average wine distributor in New York has 500 Italian wine labels in their portfolio. Then you have to factor in the thousands of other wine labels from other countries. Who has the time to taste them all? In the last century, wholesale wine was predominantly a volume based business. The traditional wine wholesaler imported more brands than they could honestly represent. Most of the brands were industrial which means at least 1 million bottles in total production and usually many millions more. The traditional wine wholesaler buys as many brands as it can manage on a computer. Whichever brands sell the most volume get the most attention, and the brands that sell little volume get lost in the portfolio. This traditional wholesaler still exists today, but, this is not the future of wholesale wine. Gladiator Wine Distribution is a new kind of importer/distributor that focuses exclusively on native wines from Southern Italy and made only by small artisans. The portfolio is small but selective. We dont introduce a new brand every week-thats what the traditional wholesaler does. We select small batch vineyards and support them 100%. We help you build these brands at your business. The goal is to make every brand in the portfolio a success. Nothing gets lost in our portfolio. We believe in every label. No distributor can be an expert in all the wines of the world.Thats why Gladiator invests all its time and energy focusing on the southern regions of Italy. Our business is niche wholesale. Gladiators President, Tony Margiotta, travels to Italy twice a year to meet with producers and search for hidden gems that larger importers overlook. We actually have on the ground experience with the deep terroir of South Italy. By doing this, were able to find quality producers and make deals that transfer to a better quality-price ratio for retailers.
