• Tacoma Historical Society is a volunteer-supported 501 (c) (3) charitable, nonprofit corporation, that is dedicated to the preservation, promotion and presentation of the history of the city of Tacoma, Washington and its people. The Tacoma Historical Society receives no public funding and all Society work is currently performed by volunteers.Scope of OperationsCollecting Tacoma photos, artifacts, documents and newspapers is just part of what we do. Each May we sponsor a Historic Homes of Tacoma Tour that is part neighborhood preservation, part education, part idea-gathering, and an essential fundraiser. In addition, Tacoma Historical Society:Holds monthly meetings featuring popular speakers and authorsOffers summer neighborhood and cemetery walking toursOperates a retail store and research center at 3712 S Cedar StreetHosts community programs on Memorial Day and Veterans DayServes as a fiscal sponsor for community arts/history projectsPublishes a quarterly City of Destiny NewsletterPresents annual awards for achievement in historical writing and preservationProvides a web resource at www.tacomahistory.org
