• As directed by Oregon voters in 1984, the Oregon Citizens Utility Board (Oregon CUB) represents the interests of Oregons residential utility customers before administrative, judicial, and legislative bodies.Oregon CUB was founded by Oregon voters in 1984 as the Citizens Utility Board of Oregon. Along with its sister organization, the CUB Policy Center, CUB has been a leader in consumer advocacy within the energy industry. In its three decades of service, CUB has, among many other things, saved Oregon ratepayers over $7 billion. Among our achievements, CUB led the effort to create the Energy Trust of Oregon in 2002 which has helped Oregon to rank third (behind California and Massachusetts) in energy efficiency investment and was critical to Oregons passage of its 25% Renewable Energy Standard. CUB led the effort to close the Boardman coal power plant and replace it with alternative resources that will emit far fewer greenhouse gases in a manner that saves customers $200 million - Boardman will be the first 1970s-era baseload coal plant in the United States to shut down due to climate concerns and, CUB has worked to ensure that Oregon takes the lead on the national stage in battling climate change. Most recently, in 2016 CUB worked with Oregon utilities and environmental stakeholders to draft and pass the Clean Electricity and Coal Transition Act, committing the state's investor-owned electric utilities to phase out all coal-generated power by 2035 and double Oregon's renewable resources to 50% by 2040. CUB merged with the CUB Policy Center in January 2017 to form one 501(c)3 nonprofit, the Oregon Citizens' Utility Board (Oregon CUB).
