• Wild Care's mission is to help orphaned, injured, ill wildlife through professional Wildlife Rehabilitation; reduce the numbers of animals impacted by human activity through Educational Outreach; and to help protect the species and the ecosystems they represent, through Advocacy and Conservation.Since 1994, Wild Care's mission has been to treat injured, ill and orphaned native wildlife, for release back into the wild capable of independent survival, to prevent wildlife casualties through public education and live counseling, and to engage the community in conservation. Since our founding Wild Care has accepted over 22,000 wild animals, representing over 275 species of birds, mammals, and reptiles. On average Wild Care receives 1,000 to 1,300 wild animals per year for treatment. Of those admitted we can document between 35% to 50% of the animals that are admitted due to injuries and problems caused directly by humans. From pollution and habitat loss to ignorance and carelessness: a female snapping turtle injured with a cracked shell due to a motor vehicle, a family of screech owls from a clear-cut lot, stolen duck and turtle eggs from a Yarmouth bog, or a laughing gull tangled in discarded fishing line, are all examples of our typical patients.
