• After losing her two sisters to breast cancer, Hope Chest for Breast Cancer Founder Barbara Hensley became painfully aware of the challenges faced by under-served women experiencing breast cancer. Since 2001, the Hope Chest for Breast Cancer has generated income to support charitable programs in the Twin Cities through a combination of a not-for-profit foundation and for-profit green retail stores.The FoundationThe Hope Chest partners with local hospitals, treatment centers, clinics and other human service organizations to administer Hope Chest programs. Since these partners have the capacity to identify breast cancer patients under urgent financial distress, Hope Chest assistance can be made on the spot without a lengthy bureaucratic process. Our collaborations ensure that the Foundation resources go to those who need it most in a timely manner, without the duplication of services. Hope Chest services include: Emergency assistance to provide rent, utilities, transportation and other needs to women suffering from financial distress or unable to work due to the side effects of breast cancer. Delivered Meals that Heal for women and their families so they can get the essential nourishment their bodies need during breast cancer treatment. Early detection education and screening for women with a focus on diverse populations.
