• Realizing a need for Catholic secondary education in Weirton, Monsignor Daniel Patrick Murphy began formulating plans early in the 1950's for the building of a high school. After receiving the approval of Archbishop Swint of the Wheeling diocese, Msgr. Murphy and a group of interested parishioners began a fund raising campaign of one million dollars. Weirton Steel Company and many generous individuals made large contributions. Catholic employees pledged three percent of their wages for three years. Mr. and Mrs. Starvaggi donated twelve acres of land for the school plan.Today, Madonna High School is stronger than ever. As a Catholic school, Madonna seeks to prepare its students for a successful future spiritually, intellectually, physically, and socially in the environment of a caring community in the service of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. With approximately 185 students in Grades 9-12, Madonna High School is committed to providing a quality Catholic, college preparatory education. Over the past three years, Madonna HIgh School has produced a 100% graduation rate, with 98.6% of our students attending a four-year college. In 2011, 48% of eligible students qualified for the West Virginia Promise Scholarship.
