• Mission: To promote volunteer management in communities and as a profession. Purpose: Increase community profile and relevance, Provide professional opportunities for members, Create networking opportunities. Objectives: Facilitate community awareness and member support, Development networks and collaborations, Support education and training of Volunteer Managers and Volunteers. What We Do We gather once a month (3rd Wednesday) at 8:30 AM. Our agenda includes introductions of members, program portion (spotlight on specific organization), resource sharing and a short business meeting. Our emphasis is to build professional relationships and partners, improve the relevance of volunteerism within the community, and educate and support volunteer managers. Held in Topeka every October, MOVE sponsors a Conference for Volunteer Managers and Volunteers. Membership Our membership consists of volunteer managers and volunteers from local organizations and businesses. We welcome persons with a passion for volunteerismwhether salaried or unsalaried. Individual and Organizational Memberships Available. History 1970sDOVIA (Directors of Volunteers in Agencies) begins with a group of volunteer managers sharing ideas, promoting volunteerism in the community and learning together. DOVIA collaborates with Volunteer Action Center. 1982Bylaws formatted; Volunteer Center becomes an advisor to DOVIA with ex-officio membership. DOVIA meetings continue monthly with diminishing membership into the late 1990s. 2011DOVIA changes its name to MOVE (Managers of Volunteer Engagement). New leadership is selected and goals are set. 2012With Washburn University Law Clinic as advisor, MOVE seeks tax exempt status. New by-laws and articles of incorporation are passed. Membership and partnerships show renewed growth and enthusiasm. 2013MOVE is granted 501 c 3 status. 2014MOVE held the first annual Make a Difference in Your Community Fair with 24 exhibitors.
