- PressFriends is an all-volunteer, youth-led nonprofit formed by kids for kids in 2008. Our mission is to make writing and learning fun for elementary school kids, to empower every kid to become a socially responsible leader and mentor, and to create compassion and understanding in youth from diverse backgrounds to strengthen communities. PressFriends has trained over 650 student volunteers since 2008, who have mentored 3500 underserved elementary students. We use peer mentoring and project-based learning to help elementary students improve their writing skills. During the school year, we hold free afterschool newspaper clubs at Title I elementary schools. In the summer, we hold free summer camp programs with local community centers, combining an activity with a writing exercise. Our summer programs include ArtFriends, STEMFriends, SportsFriends, DanceFriends, MusicFriends, TheatreFriends, and EcoFriends.
