Get Full AccessDescription
- Founded in 2004, the Interfaith Center of Greater Philadelphia emerged as a regional response to the national tragedy of 9/11. The Center was formed by individuals from a wide diversity of backgrounds who wanted to transform the tragic event into a catalyst to affect positive change in this community. Since then, the Center has worked to advance mutual trust, understanding and cooperation among communities and individuals of faith and good will, in order to work together for the common good of the region. The Center enables people of all backgrounds to share their deepest convictions, shape solutions to common problems, and live out their highest values and aspirations, through celebration, service, education, and action. The three main components of the Interfaith Center's work are:-The Walking the Walk Youth Initiative-This nationally-recognized initiative provides teenagers with experiences, skills, and resources necessary to live in a diverse world, deepen their own identities, and break through walls that distance and divide them from people of other religious, cultural, and economic backgrounds. The innovative, year-long curriculum was designed by a multi-faith professional team with expertise in youth development, service-learning, and systems change.-The Religious Leaders Council-The Religious Leaders Council of Greater Philadelphia was founded in Spring 2006 and is the first of its kind in the city, with more than 30 member communities, representing more than two million people of diverse faith traditions from across the greater Philadelphia region.-Adult Learning & Leadership-The Center has designed a a broad range of programs for adultsfrom community workshops and congregational programs to highly specialized gatherings for religious leaders or professional continuing education. In its first ten years of existence, the Interfaith Center has reached more than 10,000 adults from over 300 community groups and faith communities.
